gaga for Gaga

So i was watching this weeks episode of Glee, (probably the greatest show on television, and certainly a true hallmark of our generation), and it focused on the music and Theatricality of Lady Gaga (another hallmark of our generation). It excites me when I think about our generation. (Did some research: I am part of "Generation Y" or the "Millennial Generation") We are the children of Gen X, the children of the Baby Boomers. As it stands today, Baby Boomers pretty much run the world. They're those born from 45-65, during the time of "epic" prosperity and "peace" after World War Two. Being 2 steps away from that generation, and paying attention in history class, i can tell you, THEY ARE THE REASON THE WORLD SUCKS RIGHT NOW. They're stubborn, slow to change, if at all, and they think all youth is doomed to an impossibly terrible life. They're the generation that beat Hitler, dropped the Bomb, and basically "saved" the world. Enter Gen X, their children, people who were brought up in this no-nonsense, follow the rules, America is immutable environment. I learned in a college psych class that Gen X generally has a negative outlook on the future, and life in general. They are today's middle management. They hate their situation because they can't break though what is tentatively called the "gray ceiling," basically, friendly nepotism within the corporate parapet, which i get. i would be totally pissed if i couldn't advance simply because they old guy wont give up power and/or die. This is the Generation who saw the Watergate Scandal, the Vietnam War, and the fall of the Communist Block. I can understand why they're pissed off. they don't trust the government, they don't want to become their parents, yet they don't understand their children. Btw, the Baby Boomers had tons of kids, where as Gen X didn't so that's why my parents have 7-8 brothers and sisters, and i have 2. Gen X didn't want big families, they grew up with them. (sry, needed to put that in there. toldja i jump around a bit, i still havent gotten to the point yet!). Enter Generation Y. The happy go-lucky everything is possible generation. We say the rise of the internet, global warming, and the public sector space race. I believe Gen Y will the be the first people to return to the moon, if not stand on Mars. I believe Gen Y will be the generation to make a more positive impact on the future than any other. "green tech" is being pioneered by people who grew up playing video games. no other generation is like ours. we got the best of both worlds. we got all the coolest video games of the day, but we dodged the "add-adhd" bullet of our younger counter parts. we don't agree with our parents that the world sucks. and if we do, then we see a much greater possibility to change it! We saw George Bush get elected. Twice. "We" elected Barrack Obama. We know its possible for anyone to be in the White House. We have seen the terrible behavior of our grandparents and the cynicism and inaction of our parents, and we choose to change our world. to be proactive about it. This generation will truly create the "Global Village." A nation isn't an island anymore. its not about a race to space, or who has the biggest baddest fighting force in the world. its time to start realizing that we need to work together if we want to survive.

ok, enough political soap boxing. we can talk generational fuck up's later. Back to my original point: Lady Gaga. She's Madonna on speed. She changes her looks more often than politicians change official positions on hot button issues. She captures ideas and artistic styles from every time period and artist this side of DaVinci. She's not one person long enough for you to get a read on her. She has a semi-specific music style, but keeps upping the anti, with no competitors to speak of. she embodies the theatricality of this generation. we're the generation of video game characters, of Nickelodeon characters, of movie characters. we're obsessed with people who don't really seem real (i mean c'mon, jersey shore's getting a 2nd season). we associate with that aesthetic, because thats what we were raised on. We grew up with the Marios, the Sonics, the Crashes, the Tommy Pickles, the Chuckie Finsters, the Phil and Lils, the bad Batmans, the Simbas, the Woodys the Buzzes, THE SIMPSONS for christ sakes! our formative years were filled with literal characters and caricatures, we watched Bill Clinton almost get impeached, we watched George Bush get elected, we watched Dick Cheney SHOOT SOMEONE IN THE FACE AND GET AWAY WITH IT! if you think that's not theatrical, you've never opened a book, and need to shut up right now. At first i didnt appreciate the totality of what she embodies, but she is basically the logical, intelligent, and lucrative conclusion to our generation. She's theatrical, inventive, re-inventive, and a figurehead for our generation. the generation before had Madonna, the generation after has.......Dora the explorer? I think we win. Power to the Millennials!

Off Day

You ever have one of those days where you consciously take off work so you can get things done around the house, i.e. cleaning, reading, etc, and then only get a fraction of what you wanted done? Well that happened to me today. After waking up an hour and half after I had "planned on," I watched Glee and Lost, two of my most favorite shows. Glee was good (as always!) and Lost was...well, a bunch of peoples status' were saying, "oh J.J. Abrahms, that was the crappiest episode all season, etc etc, but I disagree. It began to bring full circle the stories of Jacob, the Man in Black, and the Survivors. True, we still don't know about the flashes sideways, but theres only 1 more episode before the series finale!!! Anyways, after that, I started to do some reading, but quickly got distracted by Farmville, Stumble, and Apple Trailers. Super 8 anyone? J.J. Abrahms has mastered the art of the teaser trailer, from this new Super 8 thing, to the teaser for the new Star Trek that came out last year, to the art form defining teaser for Cloverfield. At the end of these movies, you're not pumped because the heroes just killed the bad guys and save America (again), but because you wanna get home and google these new movie trailers, and see what kind of inside info you can get from them! Its changing the way and the reasons people go to the movies. So anyways, I didn't get anything I wanted to, done, and now I'm even further behind on my workload. Boohoo. On the upside, I got a sub call this afternoon, so I'll be doing that tomorrow, as well as some manual labor that I do for my uncle. I really need to find a more stable job........but first, I'd have to find..............................................THE TIME!!!!

Strike One

Well now, here I am, on the blog-o-sphere......or in it rather.....I'm not 100% sure, I'm still new at this.

Now, what to blog about? They make you pick you're name before you blog anything, so my title may not have anything to do with my musings, on life, the universe, and everything. That's one thing I'll have to warn you about, I'm a pop culture sponge, so if I say something that doesn't make sense, it's either a movie quote (which you can search at IMDB.com) or a song lyric (which you can search for on google).

I feel like, if you blog, you have to have something important to say, like you have to have great prose or spot on reporting to be read. Which makes me think, and I really don't care if I have either. I'll try to have all my facts checked, my rhyme in perfect meter, etc. But when it's not, don't come down too hard on me. I'm only human.

So, I guess I should talk about something, give this post a topic other than introductions...............

God.

(yes I like to swing for the fences, even if it means no one's pitching a ball).

I believe we are all God. God took a little piece of Himself/Herself/Itself, and created all life as we know it. (in reference to the He/She/It issue, a truly infinite god would be all those things. To say an infinite God is just a man, is to say all the donuts in the world are glazed. Lame!). That's not to say I don't believe in evolution, because I do. Now I'm sure some of you out there are thinking, well, evolution is a theory! Which I would agree with, it is still technically a theory, however the mounting evidence is quite substantial. The difference between scientific theory and law, is the math involved. To arbitrarily quantify the entirety of the known genomes in animal kingdom alone would take longer than the Milky Way has before it collides with the Andromeda Galaxy: (here's one of those fact checks i was talking about!) Billions of years. Things like the Law of Gravity or the Law of Thermo-dynamics, all have equations that were derived from theories, and with no proof to the contrary, they became laws. Evolution and the Big Bang are still theories, mostly because of how young the ideas are, humanly speaking. Evolutions 200 years old, and the Big Bang is around 100 years old. So we are only just starting to see how these theories work in the real world, and testing them in the lab, as well as the field. However, like I tend to do, I have gone astray from the main issue: God. Or have I? The Big 3 Religions (A.k.a. the Abrahamic Religions; Judaism, Christianity, and Islam) preach a separation from God, most of the time, from birth, and that only through the church can you reclaim you're "rightful place" at "gods table" in heaven. If you don't follow what they say you'll burn in "hell" for "eternity" and never know God. I'm sorry, aren't religions supposed to bring you closer to God? Not tease you like schoolyard bully then kick you too the curb when you don't live up to, or agree with their expectations. I understand the purpose of religion, at least from the psychological prospective; Religion is a belief system that induces thoughts, and therefore behaviors, according to a specified model. Priests and Rabbi's tell you what to think, about God, about other people, about the universe as a whole (which in the past used be very little). They tell you how to behave: according to "God's will." I'm sorry but "God's will" is the biggest load of baloney since the Book of Genesis (which i'm sure we'll talk about later). God is infinite, which is what I believe and what the Big 3 will preach. However, they turn right around say, if you don't do this, or if you do do that, God won't love you and you'll go to hell. I'm sorry, I thought God was love, God was infinite? There's nothing God could want. God Wants NOTHING!!! from ANYONE!!! Its as simple as that! I'm sure some of you out there are crapping you're pants right now, or have clicked this off because you think I'm a heretic, sent here by "the Devil" or "the Evil One" to take you're soul. For those of you still reading, I'm not, I assure you. Now back to the topic. There is nothing that is not God, for God is All There Is. God is the Alpha and the Omega, the Unmoved Mover, the Force, Infinity, whatever you want to call it, it's all God. So to say that there is something God wants from you, is complete hogwash. Anything you will ever do, and everything you have ever done, was in God, through God, and by God. Not to say you have no free will, you do, you can do whatever you like, just know that there's no such thing as "the good path" or "the bad path." God is outside such human insignificancies as Good and Evil. Sure the bible will tell you that some things are good and somethings are bad, but that was written by men. I'll agree that it was inspired by God, if you'll agree that Dante's Inferno, Mein Kampf, and the stories of Jack the Ripper were also inspired by God. God is an all or nothing topic here people! Peoples thoughts about God determine their thoughts about people and the world at large. If you're taught to love God and fear God at the same time, you're gonna confuse those feelings your whole life! You'll love your spouse, but also fear them, and deep down you'll never really understand why! Until you start questioning what people are telling you! World leaders, Religious leaders, News leaders, everyone. Find your own truth. Stop being lazy and having someone else tell you what to believe! Stop fearing! Psalms 27:1 Fear nothing, for God is with (of) you.

I think I've spouted enough rhetoric for one posting. Here's to Future, and all its Infinite possibilities.
